This slim filler is designed for tight spaces between a wall and a cabinet run. It is edge-banded on one side only, because only that side will be visible after installation. The top, bottom, and back edges are left raw (exposed plywood). The filler is 4.5" deep from front to back, allowing it to extend from the floor to the top of the cabinet and cover the wall at the toe-kick area (if applicable).
Whenever a cabinet run ends against a wall, a filler is typically used to space the cabinet at least 2" away from the wall, the most common filler width. Because most walls are not perfectly plumb or level, a filler helps transition from the imperfect wall to a square cabinet and ensures doors do not rub against the wall. It also makes the installation look more "built-in."
This slim filler, however, is only 3/4" wide, just enough to allow millwork to terminate cleanly on the face while maximizing cabinet storage space. Unlike a standard 2" "L"-shaped filler (which can be trimmed and scribed for a tighter fit), the slim filler offers less flexibility in adjusting to wall imperfections. The recommended installation is to place the slim filler tight to the wall, then apply a bead of caulk to fill any gaps between the straight edge of the filler and the uneven wall surface.
